It’s Memorial Day. The only reason I know this is because, usually at this time, I would be on the phone talking to customers about their loans. So, I am grateful my job does observe this day. I am also grateful I have a job. Of course it could be worse. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find myself having to check the calendar, then question it, before believing what day of the week it is. With all that is going on in the world, the days look alike.

Previous Memorial days are known for barbeques and cookouts with family. But of course nobody is doing that, right? With the social distancing in effect, this day looks different from the ones’ of its past. I live in North Carolina. Most of my family is in New York. So, I never would be going to a barbeque or cookout anyway. I’m not much of a people person anyway, so avoiding large gatherings- makes me happy.

However, I was talking to my sister last week who made me ask myself a question I hadn’t thought about until now. She was saying how she missed her coworkers. I, on the other hand, was happy to be working from home. I did not miss the traffic. Nor the rushed lunch hours. But more importantly, I did not miss my coworkers. I wondered could that be a problem. Is everyone missing their coworkers by now? In my defense, we do communicate with each other throughout the work week, using a software called Jabber. So that could be the reason. But still, I’m wondering why don’t I feel the way others do. Again, I’ve never been a people person so, I’m not exactly going to make an effort to fix this. It was just a thought, that will pass.

Again, it is Memorial Day. I want to express my sincerest thank you to all the men and women who are serving on behalf of our country. Their families who are serving in another way, with the sacrifices they make in their love ones absence. Also, to the veterans who have served our country. We appreciate and honor all of you on this day especially, but everyday- for what you do and have done.
